Strobe Edge by Io Sakisaka

If you’ve read the manga Ao Haru Ride by Io Sakisaka, you’ll have a good idea as to how Strobe Edge will be. You can read my review here.

There is a lot of similarities in both stories, but they both stand out individually in many ways. And that stand-out points are the characters.

The story is very simple. Ninako is a girl who’s never fallen in love. And the first time she does fall in love? It’s with the hottest guy in school, Ren Ichinose. Ren doesn’t bat an eye at first, but slowly, as they keep meeting, by chance, on purpose—he slowly realizes his true feelings.

In the midst of all this, there is one character who we all fall head over heels in love with: Andou. He is Ren’s best friend and upon discovering their story, I felt for both the boys very strongly.

I did not like Ninako. She seemed too…stupid. And, well, eh. I just didn’t like her. I also didn’t expect to not like Ren. He was okay, in that dark, brooding sense, and the occasional laughter made it all the more worthwhile.

But Andou. He’s to die for. If i find him in real life, I’d hold him tight and never let him go. He is this playboy in the beginning, but then he changes as the story develops. And this transformation is brilliant.

As usual, here are the panels that I loved. Don’t see it if you haven’t read it!
